New info on HB-1A and TJ6A transceivers

By John Harper AE5X, July 15, 2010 7:41 pm

If you haven’t looked lately, there’s new info from BD4RG and Yimin on these two kits…spectrum plots, YouTube videos and better photos than those available previously.

Gotta admit, with a pre-built 10-watt phone/CW rig that covers six bands costing only $300, I’m real anxious to see what the price will be of their upcoming HF2K amplifier. Two weeks to go on that one.

With Icom having discontinued the IC-703 they have picked a great time to come out with this new radio. And at that price I see it becoming really popular.

Conveniently I am in the market for a qrp trail rig. I am anxious to see some news of the BF1A rig mentioned on the youkits website.

  3. Me too, Jim – they had a photo that has since been removed.

I took the plunge and ordered a TJ6A from e-bay today. Will keep you posted.

  5. FB Sean – did you order the kit or the built version?

Just bought a TJ6A from ebay. Looking forward to doing some qrp cw soon after an absence of 10 years. Will be using a full size G5RV antenna. vy 73 de va7mn

Just purchased a TJ6A assembled from Ebay. First QRP as DL4LQ in 1949 with 10 watts and a BC-348Q! Looking forward to lots of DXing. 73 Al W6JHO

I was about to ask where it was available from but looks like I can go to Ebay and purchase one. Looks like I might be able to get back on the air sooner than planed. Especially at that price.

Built version…my kit making days are long over now. Everything is too small for me to work with..hi hi.

  10. The one thing that would make me hesitate on this rig is that there is no info (that I can find) regarding bandwidth in either SSB or CW. Is it variable, fixed – and what is it exactly? Maybe I’m overlooking it, but so far – nada…

  11. I sent an email and got this reply:

    “Hi John.

With the standard filter, 3.2KHz. If the optional filter unit is used, 2 choices are available: CW (narrow)and SSB (3.2KHz). The width is changed automatically.

    Thank you!”

Not sure how narrow “narrow” is.
