S01WS – Western Sahara

After working S01WS on 40m a few minutes ago I took a look at the station’s website and found many amazing photos.

The one above is my favorite because it symbolizes an aspect of ham radio that strikes a chord in me – that of radio’s ability to connect a remote outpost with the rest of the world. What else can one think when seeing this building in the middle of the desert adorned with a triband Yagi?!

For those who need Western Sahara, they’ve been putting a healthy signal into the states the past two local evenings with surprisingly small pile-ups. And they seem to be making many contacts with EU on 60m SSB.

Western Sahara is a needed country for me.
However both my TS-590s and FT-100 being out of service, I guess I will miss it again…
Unless they show up on 20m at the right time and all europeans stay quiet so I can work them with my Mountain Topper Rig! Does christmas happen in august sometime ?
