HF converter kit for FunCube Dongle arrives
Today’s mail brought an envelope from Portugal, courtesy of CT1FFU and CT2IRW, containing a bag of tiny parts…but not too many of them!
I’m not the most enthusiastic builder of kits containing SMD devices but with only a small handful of parts I’m not expecting much ado. With only one cap to tweak and no coils to wind, construction ought to be a snap and will add HF reception to the FCD’s already broad spectrum of coverage.
This second round of kits seems to have sold out quickly but their website promises to make the kit available for at least another round.

Good luck OM! I think I must have gotten one of the v1(?) kits, as it had less parts than the picture you have. In fact, it was missing a 100pf capacitor!
I had no luck getting it to work, but as it was my first attempt at an SMT kit, I may have ‘singed’ some of the parts. The oscillator is oscillating and the filter has power, but it just won’t work its magic.

Sorry to hear that Mike. Those tiny parts are tricky. I bet a cheap SMD kit for learning the details of working with those sizes would do well…something to practice on before building a kit that’s actually useful.
